Today the caravan led me to:
The Tinkering School is a place where kids can go to learn, to explore, build, fail, succeed and try again. It is an amazing program that allows kids to take charge of their learning and their process and time table. As a teacher of at risk youth and kids in crisis, I believe that one significant element missing from typical teenagers lives is the ability to design and build something. To look at their product and feel proud of something they built. So much of what we do today is temporary and short lived. My students need permanence in their lives that comes through looking at their creation and taking pride in what they've done. The Tinkering School provides that. It is in some ways a rite of passage for youth that will never get another. There are many great articles, videos and posts on their website and blog. Gever Tulley is the brains behind the schools. He's an amazing, creative guy who is providing something that is often lost in today's youth. http://www.tinkeringschool.com/
